In alignment with the European Conference on Literacy’s theme, Literacy: The Door to a Better World, education professors Jenn Manak, Jason Surian, and Sarah Hunt-Barron jointly presented their collaborative research project, “Attitudes Toward Diversity Among Future Educators: Inside a Teacher Preparation Program” at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

In addition to their collaborative presentation, they each shared their individual research: Manak’s “Blurring Boundaries: The Power of Transdisciplinary Literacy Learning,” Surian’s “Teaching in Full Color: Illuminating Identity and Empathy Through Story,” and Hunt-Barron’s “Embedding Pre-Service Teachers in Schools: Improving Reading Instruction and Reading Achievement for Diverse Learners.”

The conference theme and its accompanying sub-themes emphasized the importance of literacy as a catalyst for positive change while seeking to elevate diverse voices, promote inclusivity, and highlight the power of collaboration in building a better world.

Organized by the Federation of European Literacy Associations (FELA), the European Conference on Literacy convenes educators, researchers, and literacy organizations from across Europe to exchange research, promote best practices, and advance literacy education through collaboration and professional development.
